Saunders Street Clinic is a General Practice located in Wynyard, Tasmania and was established in December 2009, we shifted to the Jackson Street site in March 2013.
The clinic has been accredited to RACGP 5th standards with GPA since July 2019.
University of Tasmania Rural Clinical School medical students are allocated to the practice.
The clinic is accredited by GPTT (General Practice Training Tasmania) to take RACGP and ACRRM general practice registrars since 2010 as a level 1 training practice. (re accredited August 2016).
Consultation is by appointment only. To book an appointment, call the clinic on 03 6442 1700.
Urgent cases are seen on the day unless advised by practice staff to attend the local Emergency dept or call an ambulance if this is more appropriate.
Booking a long appointment is important for more complex problems – insurance medicals, health reviews, counselling, commercial drivers medicals, etc. This may involve a longer wait for an appointment. Please bring all relevant information to the appointment.
A small number of walk in appointments for EMERGENCIES or URGENT ADVICE are available each day. No patient or visitor will be turned away if you present with a serious or life threatening problem.

The doctors at Saunders Street Clinic are experienced in a broad range of general medical problems and provide treatment to all age groups. Services offered include;
- 24 and 48 hour Holter monitor (Charles Heart Centre provided)
- ambulatory Blood pressure recording
- digital atrial fibrillation and BP recording
- ABI measurements
A doctor from Saunders Street Clinic is available 24 hours a day.
This practice uses the after hours phone triage service, Health Direct Australia, which is an after hours service funded by the Federal Government and staffed by registered nurses and experienced general practitioners. For GP advice and assistance outside normal opening hours please phone Health Direct 1800 022 222.
If this service thinks it is warranted then the on call doctor at Saunders Street Clinic will be contacted by GP assist Hobart who will then contact the patient OR will be advised of the most appropriate course of action.
For medical emergencies call the Tasmania Ambulance Service on 000.
For advice on non life-theatening medical issues after hours phone the Northwest Regional Hospital emergency department on 6493 6000.
There are carparks avaialble in the council carpark behind Woolworths, in the Wonders of Wynyard park and in the Education Department park over the back fence.
There a is a five minute drop off site in front of the surgery, and disabled patients may be dropped off at the entrance but cars must then be moved as the driveway must be kept clear for ambulance use.

Referrals - Doctors in this practice are competent in handling common health problems. When necessary, they can use opinions from specialists. You can openly discuss this with the practice doctors.

Running Late Despite our best intentions we sometimes run late! This is because someone has needed unexpected urgent attention. Thank you for your consideration. If you need to leave on time for another appointment please notify the reception staff on your arrival.
Telephone advice - Most problems are best dealt with in a face to face consultation. A doctor or nurse is available in surgery hours for emergency advice.
Medical record confidentiality - This practice protects your personal health information to ensure it is only available to authorised staff members for the intended purposes and to comply with the Privacy Act.
Home visits are provided as necessary by individual GPs. These must be organised directly with the doctor. PLEASE NOTE: as we have a small team and all of our Drs work long days, house calls are limited to the town of WYNYARD ONLY. Narcotics are NOT carried by any Doctor.
Nursing home visits are provided by individual doctors on a weekly and as needed basis. Wynyard Care Centre is the ONLY local nursing home that receives visits.
Test results are followed up by the doctor. A follow-up appointment will be made as needed, reception staff CAN NOT discuss results by phone or in person.
Cancellation of appointments must be made where possible 24 hours in advance. A separate appointment is necessary for each family member.
Translator - Please notify the receptionist if a translator is required PRIOR to the appointment.
